Prefix Punk'd!

I've been giddy ever since starting to read Chuck Palahniuk's newest novel. Rant: An Oral History of Buster Casey really is an exciting story, at least to begin with. It's like reading the adventures of Huckleberry Finn, except that our childhood hero this time comes with the preface that he's going to grow up to infect half of the nation with some strain of super-rabies. Also, he kills some of his family members with insects. Also, he's kind of psychic. I know it sounds weird and confusing, but it's one of the best first acts I've ever read. Things are kind of breaking down at the halfway mark here though. Once the protagonist grows up and leaves town, there's some whole new cyberpunk angle that's getting worked in. It's really distracting, and a little Johnny Come Lately, to be honest. Cyberpunk was passe before the last Matrix movie came out. Everybody knows that the hot sci-fi shit these days is steampunk.

My birthday party is next Saturday. I already sent out invitations on Facebook, so if you haven't heard of it yet, now you know. Give me a call, I'll give you the details. To all of you who can't attend: You are all suckers, or at least otherwise decent people who are probably in different countries at the moment.

Different countries and or just different parts of this (rather large) country.

I know you'd eventually come to love Facebook.

Anyway, I'd love to read Rant/. I'll trade you something cool for it - maybe Niccolo Machiavelli's The Prince or maybe Nils Johan Ringdal's Love for Sale - A World History of Prostitution?

Also steampunk is lame except for that one Transformers series. That shit was cool.
