It's not that I don't like learning, it's that I like to learn things that are interesting to ME. School is rarely able to accomodate this, so I am forced to seek my knowledge elsewhere. Which brings me to a really cool link, SoYouWanna.com. I've learned all sorts of things here, like how to better enjoy the cigars that Ma and Pa brought back from Cuba, much more so than if I had just stuck the thing in my mouth and lit it on fire like some Moe.

Two movies that I've been anticipating have opened u precently, to mixed reviews. Both Jersey Girl and The Ladykillers aren't doing so well, and now I'm not sure if I want to see them. I have to see jersey Girl regardless, to see what a PG-13 rated Kevin Smith movie is like. I honestly can not imagine.

Sweatshop Union. It's Canadian Cummunist hip hop at it's finest. Listen as this crew expertly weaves tales purporting the evils of our right winged government, complaining about how poor they are, rapping about how a redistribution of wealth would sove everything. It's pretty hilarious stuff.

Did you guys check out the extra comic that I did this week? I was feeling particularily inspired at the time.

Man oh man, but I can't wait for Wednesday. It marks the first time in a long time that I will be able to go to the airport (wheeee!), and it will also herald in a new era in Calgary: Krispy Kremes will open their first locaion in western Canada. This is big stuff people. Big stuff.

If I were to ever join a fledgling indy band, just for the sake of being able to say I did, I would want it to sound like a cross between Pavement and Grandaddy. They sing off key, their songs are far from complicated, and the lyrics are completely non-sensical. You may not think so, but they know that they are the coolest guys in this galaxy.

Have you ever woken up and totally forgotten who you are? You'll be lying there, wondering why you aren't helping the president with security issues, and then you'll open your eyes and realize that you're in fact just some regular guy. This sort of thing has been happeining to me with an alarming frequency as of late. Oh well.

I just got my "I am ten ninjas" shirt from Diesel Sweeties, and it is super awesome. It has inspired me to collect ninja themed t-shirts from all of my favorite webcomics as they become available. I already have MegaTokyo's "NINJ4" hoodie, and hopefully Sam and Fuzzy's S. Logan will be offering a t-shirt depicting his ninja mafia soon. Beyond that, I can't really find anything.

The Pharcyde. Old school rap done right. Did you know that they were the first people to say the word "edumacated"? It's true, the wonder that we have always accredited to Homer Simpson was actually an old school rap reference. Go figure.

I figured for my next comic that I'd take on Double Bubble's Pud Comics, but after reading a few, I realized that it's hardly needed. These things are worse than Peanuts, for god's sakes. It's cool though, I'll find something to work with.

Saw Johnny Depp's new vehicle, "The Secret Window". I can't say much about it, except that it's good up until the ending, where it would seem to mimmick the ending of another really good movie. If you haven't seen this other good movie, then I would say that Secret Window is great. I can't tell you what that other movie is though. (Most cryptic film review ever).

Holy crap! Have you seen this trailer? I'm sure you have passed the link by if you're checking Penny-Arcade regularily, but just in case: this is the COOLEST MOVIE TRAILER EVER. If you still choose not to see this, allow me to describe it for you; A cyber-ninja is tearing around a cyber-punk world (ie. Final Fantasy 7) that is being ravaged by 50-foot rampaging robots. At one point in the trailer, this ninja tears the heads off of the robots, and chops another one right in half! So cool! Don't even get me started about the one robot that gets in the way of the ninja as he's free-falling from the sky. I have officially wet myself.

Do I have anything else to say? Kinda, but I'll save it for tomorrow's post.

Bear vs. Shark. 'Nuff said. These guys rock. The lead singer screams in ways I only wish I could. As for The Cheat, he totally freaks out when he sees a bear holding a shark.

I want to go to Cuba. The folks just came back, and they brought back all sorts of cool stuff. I got a keen new ring, some cigars, and some really nice rum. Best part of it all is how cheap it was. Ring-6 buxx, Cigars-5 buxx, Rum-8 buxx. That's not much buxx, and they were also having a lot of fun in tropical conditions, free of American peoples.

I'll be gone for a few days this week for the funeral, in Saskatchewan. Yeah.

Saw Bubba Ho-Tep again with Fat Mike today. I figured out why it's so good: It's not a story about Elvis and JFK fighting an evil mummy in a rest home, it's a story about an old guy coming to terms with his own mortality and the cancerous growth on his penis who just happens to be Elvis doing all that hero junk. It's a subject so crazy that they took seriously, and they did it well. I also forgot to mention earlier how excellent the score for the film was. I'd love to get it on myPod.

I could really stand to have something cool happen to me right about now. I'd hate to say that I've let all this stuff get me depressed, but I sure could use a pick-me-up. Whatever.

Ugh, what a terrible way to end what would have been a great week. My grandmother just passed away last night, at the age of 88. It came as no real surprise to me, as she was never in great health, but she cerainly deserved better. I don't think that anybody could say a bad word of her, she herself having never said a bad word of anybody else. It's a tragic loss to be sure.

And I was having such a good week too. I finished my presentation and final project for my stupid General Studies class, and the folks were in Cuba all week, so I got to do a bit of cooking, which I enjoy when I have the time. I had to cancel the barbeque due to homework, but there was only really 2 or 3 people coming anyway.

Watched School of Rock with Jack Black yesterday. Funny stuff. I'm just remembering now that I forgot to take it back to the rental place, so now I'm gonna have to pay the late fee. Crap.

Probably a new comic by Tuesday.

Movie Review: Bubba Ho-Tep
Wow. Just wow. This took my expectations and blew them out of the water. I was expecting a campy romp of a horror film here, but what I got was so much more. Don Coscarelli, Bruce Campbell, and Ozzie Davis took what could have been the dumbest concept for a movie ever, and made it into what I would consider a powerful piece of cinematic work. The performances by Campbell and Davis were fantastic, Campbells even Oscar-worthy. He WAS Elvis, and through his inner dialougues we actually come to care about his character, as well as laugh with him. The film also deserves an Oscar for the make up jobs that were given. I've never seen something so realistic since Eddie Murphy's Coming To America, or Life. I will definitly be seeing this one again, so if you are making plans to go, call me. You know my number.

Also, there's gonna be a Barbeque at my place on Tuesday. If you're interested, let me know. I'll be making a batch of my world famous Ninpo Burgers, so you don't want to miss this.

Broken Social Scene. I just found out that they did a show tonight, but to be honest, I don't care. They're not that great. They came to me reccomended by this hipster doofus, but I honestly don't know what all the fuss is about, unless we're just supposed to be proud that they're Canadian. Whoopee.

Yahoo! Bubba Ho-Tep is playing at the Uptown Theare, and I'm gonna go see it! I'm so excited, I've been waiting for months to see this. Tamara is coming too, and so is Matt, but I suspect he is more interested in meeting Tamara than seeing the movie. I know that Bruce Campbell is not his cup of tea. I can't blame him for wanting to meet Tamara, it's the first time I've ever been able to introduce my friends to somebody that I'm going out with. I guess that there's no excuses now though, is there? Apperantly she remembers him from high school, which is a little unnerving, as I didn't really have a good time in high school, and I'm usre that Matt'll come up with some embarassing story or something. Whatever.

Ryu Hayabusa is ten ninjas! I swear, it will be a cold day in hell when they come up with a combat system tighter than that of Ninja Gaiden. Also, this game is hard as hell. There was this one level where these super-ninjas keep killing you, and when they stop trying to kill you, these dinosaur things try and eat you. After all THAT, this huge tentacle boss thing tries to tentacle rape you. No save points in between. Very frustrating, but incredibly rewarding. Play this game now.

I actually BOUGHT an album yesterday, and I already regret it. It was Will.I.Am's solo album, and it really falls flat for me. I was hoping that the record would harken back to the days when Black Eyed Peas were cool, and hadn't totally sold out. Instead, this album can be alikened to "Sonic Adventure 2: Where's Sonic?". The guy barely makes an appearance on his own album, and instead relies on many artists to supply the rhymes. He does make excellent selections in the "featuring" roster though: we hear from KRS-ONE, and that guy Phife from A Tribe Called Quest, who is essentially the other guy from Wham! who isn't George Micheal. Pass on this one.
