New Music That is Cool

I've got some new albums that are pretty rad, and I thought I'd share my thoughts on them with you.

First off, there's the new Jack Johnson commercial tie-in for the Curious George movie. Sing-A-Longs And Lullabies For The Film Curious George has to be the greatest children's album I've ever listened to. It beats the hell out of Bananaphone, that's for sure. My only problem with the album is that listening to it kind of spoiled the plot of the movie for me. It's cool though, I'm totally going to see it anyway. Chalk it up to my fascination for traditional non-Disney animation.

Hanalei is a band that I'd never heard of until I downoaded their new album Parts and Accessories in a random downloading spree. Their sound makes me think that Ben Gibbard started to actually meet women, instead of staying home and writing songs about fictional women who have broken his heart. It's upbeat and fun, and I dig it.

Lastly, the new Belle and Sabastian totally took me by surprise. The Life Pursuit is nowhere near as moody as what I've come to expect from them. This album is what happens when the souls of Sly and The Family Stone haunt The New Pornographers, forcing them to cut an album that is totally funk-influenced. For the Price of a Cup of Tea is a total booty-shaker. Chelsea, I am totally burning you a copy of this.
